Artist Statement

Through representational oil paintings dressed in muted tones, my work explores human fragility, femininity and concealment. The worlds I create are pleasingly decorated, while exploring deeper ideas about human relationships. They are quiet. They are moody. They allow the subject to remain hidden behind a light veil of humor. Investigating these ideas through painting is both a way of personally exploring the emotional landscape and communicating it with the outside world.

My latest series combines floral symbolism with nostalgic Americana. Using a color palette reminiscent of a bygone era, each painting takes the viewer back to a time of simplicity and innocence. The use of floral symbolism gives the viewer access to the psychology of the figure. Jasmine flowers covering the girl’s eyes represent feminine sensuality and impatience in love. Fallen daisy petals tucked into a pocket touch on the loss of childhood innocence.

Each painting is a journey elsewhere. They lead with a hint of humor and a bit of satire.
